Meanwhile, the sprouts are seen on the apricot trees in Malatya, and the blooming period will start within 1-2 weeks by the latest. This causes more and more panic among the traders and the exporters who have plenty of stocks in their hands. The raw material prices are meanwhile at 75-80 TL/kg levels, which means a loss for those who have filled their warehouses at higher prices.

The demands also remain still poor from abroad. Market players stated that they are aware that there will be almost no carryover in the new Season as the exports still run well and there is not much product left anymore.

However, buyers who have seen the prices reduce prefer to wait for a while before making new contracts. Market players stated that they had a year full of exciting developments and surprises in terms of apricot production and prices and say that these exciting and extraordinary developments will continue in 2022 by gaining different dimensions. In fact, after the announcement of the estimated yield for 2021, around 85 thousand tons of dried apricots, it was evident that the prices would increase in the new Season. Again, it was seen that there would be a decrease of at least five thousand tons due to the number of apricots exported as fresh and the increased production of natural dried apricots. Although this is a fact that the producers and buyers in the field can see in the first ten days of the harvest, growers started to sell their products at the price of 27 -30 TL/kg due to necessity.

However, after a short time, apricot prices rose rapidly, exceeding the level of 50 TL. Unfortunately, most of the growers had sold their products—however, the average price of the new season exports is appr. Fifty thousand tons, is 4.25 dollars. In other words, the raw material price of apricot sold so far was about $ 1.75 below the domestic price of $ 6. While Malatya expected a much higher income, export income fell behind the domestic prices. Because this year’s product was still on the tree before the harvest time, sales were made at the level of 3.25 or 3.5 dollars. For now, it is unknown for everyone what the developments will be until the new Season.

Turkey exported 56.146 mt so far, which was 55.666 mt last year during the same period. Last week’s exports were 1635 mt apricots being 2000 mt during the same week of the previous year.
