Ukraine European Union flags on table EU to Compromise on Russia Sanctions for Grain Corridor

European Commission Proposed a Plan to Solve the Issue of Grain Imports from Ukraine

The European Commission proposed a plan to solve the problems of farmers in Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia, who were affected by the increase in grain imports from Ukraine.

The document indicates that the European Commission will ask the five specified countries to allow only the transit of grain, without the sale of products on their territory.

At the same time, the corresponding draft law, which is currently being discussed in Brussels, narrows the range of products for which the specified agreement will be concluded to only four crops – wheat, corn, rapeseed, and sunflowerseed – and establishes a period of ban on their import until June 30, 2023.

The European authorities will propose that the cargo be either sealed or tracked using GPS. This should make it possible to demonstrate that the products were not unpacked during transit and did not affect local markets in the countries through which they passed.

It is expected that the ministers responsible for trade from the five mentioned EU countries will meet in the near future in Brussels with representatives of Ukraine to discuss the solution proposed by the European Commission.

“These solutions can be implemented within 24 hours, as soon as the European institutions receive Ukraine’s consent,” the message says.
