According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in Australia pulses exports declined. The country exported 53.4 thsd tonnes of chickpeas and 168.6 thsd tonnes of lentils in March this year, Grain Central reports.

At the same time, the export of chickpeas decreased by 32% for the month (78.2 thsd tonnes in February), and lentils – by 14% (196.2 thsd tonnes).

In March, Australia exported the main volumes of chickpeas to the USA – 15.8 thsd tonnes, Bangladesh (11.7 thsd tonnes) and the UAE (10.4 thsd tonnes).

Also, before the beginning of Ramadan, Bangladesh, UAE and India were the largest importers of lentils. Thus, Bangladesh purchased 85.6 thsd tonnes of the Australian pulses, compared to 41.7 thsd tonnes in February, and the UAE – 27.1 (13.5) thsd tonnes. As for India, the country significantly reduced the imports of Australian pulses in March, down to 24 (104) thsd tonnes.

At the same time, despite the slowdown of lentil exports from Australia in March, Australia exported the record volumes of the pulses in 6 months of 2022/23 MY (October-March) – 733.8 thsd tonnes, compared to 402.6 thsd tonnes in the same period of the previous season.
