ODESA: Feed barley has been gradually getting more expensive in Ukraine since the beginning of August.
Several factors contributed to this price increase. Firstly, the number of offers has decreased, as farmers are not satisfied with the current price level and are holding back sales. Secondly, purchases from export-oriented companies have intensified after the unblocking of some Black Sea ports. The devaluation of hryvnia also played an important role.
A more active rise in barley prices did not happen because of the saturation of the market with the new crops and the lack of storage capacities. In addition, the demand of processing and livestock enterprises was moderate and most of them continued to purchase raw materials only when necessary. For them, it is impractical to form large stocks now.
Thus, as of August 18, most processors fix demand prices for feed barley in the range of 4.000-4.700 UAH/t CPT. FCA prices reach the level of 200-210 $/t.
