This year, Ukraine will harvest at least 400,000 tons of peas
This year, analysts expect that farmers will sow more than 160,000 hectares of peas. Unfortunately, mined and occupied territories will fall out of business. The average yield of legumes in Ukraine is 2.3 t/ha, some producers harvest up to 3 t/ha. Before the war, domestic consumption of peas was 65-75 thousand tons, now it is half as much. Ukraine consumes not more than 40,000 tons of legumes, and exports the rest.
The area under peas will continue to increase.
Two main factors affect the increase in cultivated areas – export opportunities to India and China. In March, purchase prices have already increased by UAH 2,000-3,000 per ton or € 47-70 per ton compared to the pre-New Year figures. But the prices will be the highest when the supply of Ukrainian peas to the Chinese market, which is premium, begins. In addition to India and China, Ukrainian exporters also actively cooperate with Pakistan, Türkiye and the EU. Therefore, the area of legumes is growing and will grow even more in the 2025 season.
