Red Pepper Market: Slow and Steady Amidst Monsoon Showers

Spread the news!

The red pepper market is experiencing a sluggish phase as the arrival of red chilies remains limited in the wholesale shops of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including Gundur. The monsoon season has also cast its shadow, causing sales to slow down.

The monsoon has yet to impact in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, despite some rains. Surprisingly, about 50,000 sacks of red chillies arrived in the Guntur market, but the numbers could be better. Major local shops, including Guntur, have witnessed below-normal arrivals, even after a recent price surge. Although the arrivals started increasing to approximately 0.150 million bags, the export demand has decreased, leading to a slight slowdown in selected varieties of red chillies. As the harvest time approaches for Madhya Pradesh, the red pepper number 334 has seen an increase in the local wholesale grocery market.

The decline in arrivals from Bareilly and the delayed start of the MP crop contributed to the recent price surge. Additionally, due to heavy rains, crop damage reports in some growing areas of Uttar Pradesh add to the market’s uncertainty. While the production of the new red chillies is expected to be reasonable, concerns about weather conditions loom in Madhya Pradesh, where heavy monsoon rains have persisted.

The earlier boom in red chilli prices led farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to withhold crop sales in anticipation of even higher prices. However, after the recent recession, farmers’ sale of red chillies has started to decrease. Previously, red chilli prices remained strong in Guntur and other significant shops despite heavy selling by farmers.

As the monsoon season persists and crop concerns linger, the red pepper market is expected to maintain its sluggish pace in the upcoming days.
