India: Sesame Seed Market Moves Towards Being Steady

Spread the news!

Since the beginning of this month, there has been a steady slump in the price of both white and black sesame seeds. As per experts, the prices have reached their lowest point, and from here onwards, they are likely to stay stable or move upwards.

Market Sentiment

The last good price increase for the Sesame seed was witnessed in October after the Korean tender was announced. Since then, the market has remained a bit volatile for Sesame seeds. However, there is news that traders have started taking orders at the levels of $2,075 CFN Jakarta, Indonesia, and $21,00 CFN Haiphong, Vietnam.

India is offering the HSS 99.99% between $2,400 and $2,450 CFN to European countries. They prefer to purchase the product between the price range of $1,500 and $2,500 levels. EU has earlier purchased the products from countries like Sudan, Turkey, and Nigeria.

The non-EU countries like Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, the Middle East, and the far East like to do business with India. However, they prefer to pay between $1,500 and $2,000 pmt. for their purchase. If the price crosses $2,000, they would wait or source the material from other places that offer within their preferred range.

It also needs to be noted the demand for natural sesame seeds from India is higher than hulled. Nigeria is offering the hulled variety at $100 less than the Indian Hulled variety.

Experts say the market is likely to open for the Middle East and the Far East demands since the prices have gone down.

Arrivals

Total arrivals of the week are 2216.96 tonnes, and the maximum was from Gujarat 1193.84 tonnes.

Prediction

There is also the chance of increasing Indian sesame seed import by UAE, Israel, Vietnam, Singapore, USA, China, Turkey, Japan, Hong Kong. But with a gradual decrease in production, these countries are likely to see towards the Indian subcontinent to fulfill their demands.

There is already the expectation that China may start importing the seeds from Pakistan and even India in the coming months, with demand for the commodity increasing with the easing of the lock-down restriction.

Earlier, it was reported that the availability of good quality sesame seed would also impact the product’s prices. It has been reported only 30 percent of the sesame seeds hitting the market from the growing areas like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are of export quality.

Currently, the market is likely to stay between weak and steady until the new sesame seed export demands reach the market. After which, the changes in the market will become apparent.
