Weather Conditions in Germany Support the Development of Cereal Crops

The analysts of the German Agricultural Cooperatives Association Deutscher Raiffeisenverband estimate the current weather conditions and soil moisture level in the country as mostly favorable for the development of crops.

In this regard, the forecast of wheat production in Germany in 2023/24 MY was increased by 100 thousand tonnes compared to the previous figure – to 22.3 mln tonnes, which is planned to be harvested from 2.9 mln hectares (in the previous season, 22.5 mln tonnes were harvested from 3 mln hectares).

In particular, the harvest of winter wheat is expected to reach 22 million tons (-0.1 million tons per year), spring wheat – 147.9 (-129.5) thousand tons, durum wheat – 175.8 (-27.5) thousand tons. The forecast for corn production was also raised by 100 thousand tonnes to 4 mln tonnes (3.9 mln tonnes in 2022/23).

The forecast for rapeseed production in Germany is still in line with the last year’s level – 4.3 mln tons, which is planned to be harvested from 1.2 mln hectares.

At the same time, it is noted that weather conditions in June will be crucial for determining the final harvest figures.
