Will the High Prices for Dried Figs Continue in the Future?

Turkish Raisins: Drying Process Continues

Spread the news!

The grapes cut from the vineyards in Manisa, the region where the most seedless raisins are produced in the world, continue to be laid on the drying areas. Grape producers, who want to complete the drying processes by taking advantage of the temperature of the air, work day and night to finish the drying process before the rains start. Among the producers, those who can sell their products to TMO and TARIS are satisfied. However, those who cannot get an appointment and cannot sell their products to TMO have to look for a solution from the traders. TMO may reject manufacturers for different reasons or lower prices are offered. Those whose grapes are rejected find the solution by selling them to merchants at low prices. When a product that can be sold for 21 TL under normal conditions is rejected from the purchasing centers, it goes to the merchants with prices as low as 15 – 16 TL.

Making a statement on the subject last week, TMO General Manager Ahmet Güldal announced that they would increase their daily raisin purchasing capacity by opening new purchasing points, and that farmers who could not get an appointment could also make an appointment.

In the country where the economy of the country depends on the dollar rate, the inflation, which is already at record levels, does not seem to decrease with the decision of the central bank to cut the interest rates. Therefore, it is possible to understand the farmer’s complaints.

Due to the current situation in Europe, there is a shortage of demand. It is possible to see this situation in the export figures of the Aegean Export Association, which is announced weekly. As of the beginning of September 2022, which is taken as the basis for the new season, 27 million 364 thousand dollars of foreign currency inflow has been in exchange for 16,626 tons of exports, while this figure has been 37 million 390 thousand dollars in exchange for 20,500 tons of exports for the same period of the previous year.

The Usd/TL rate is at 18.46 TL (18.29 last week) and Euro/TL rate is at 17.79 TL levels (18.30 last week).
