About 11 percent of the area under grape cultivation in Iran belongs to Khorasan Razavi province. This year, about 355.000 tons of this crop have been produced in this province. 60 to 70 percent of the grapes harvested in Khorasan Razavi province have turned into raisins. About 60.000 to 70.000 tons of raisins have been produced in the province this year.
According to the Agricultural Organizations of Khorasan Razavi Province, 29.170 hectares of vineyards are in this province. Of this amount, 21.430 hectares include irrigated orchards and 7.700 hectares are rain-fed vineyards. The average harvest of grapes in the province is about 17 to 22 tons in irrigated orchards and 1.500 kg to 1.700 kg per hectare in rain-fed orchards. Preliminary estimates indicate that about 355.000 tons of crops have been harvested this year regarding the number of grapes harvested in Khorasan Razavi. About 11 percent of the grape cultivation area in Iran belongs to Khorasan Razavi. It is ranked third in Iran in terms of grape cultivation and production. About 37.000 households make a living from grapes directly.
Drought impacted production
Drought has reduced vineyard production by an average of 25 to 30 percent this year compared to last year. Most cities are involved in grape cultivation and production in the province, but 70 percent of the area under grape cultivation in the province are in Khalilabad, Ghuchan, Kashmar, and Joghatay cities, respectively. About 15.000 hectares under grape cultivation (70 percent in the province) are located in these cities. Vineyards are also being developed in cities such as Torbat-e Jam, Sabzevar, Taybad, and Mashhad. There are 30 types of grapes in Khorasan Razavi province.
Most raisins produced in this province are Green, Golden, and Sultana types. 60 to 70 percent of the harvested grapes province are turned into raisins in Khorasan Razavi. The price of Iranian raisins has risen due to increased export demand over the past month. During the mentioned period, the balance between supply and demand has been disturbed in global markets due to the reduction in raisin production this year and increasing demand. This issue has increased the price of Iranian raisins for export to international markets. The main reason for the rise in export demand is the arrival of the New Year and the Chinese New Year. Compared to last month, the price of Golden raisins for export has increased by about 30 percent, the cost of dark and light Sultana raisins has risen by about 22 percent, and the price of Green and Sundried raisins for export has grown by about 21 percent.
