The export of Iranian walnuts has decreased by 40 percent in terms of weight and 50 percent in terms of export value in 2021 compared to 2020. The average price of each kilogram of exported walnuts has declined by more than 16 percent in 2021 compared to 2020.

According to Iranian customs statistics, the number of Iranian walnut exports was 471 tons worth 2.885.000 USD in 2021. The average price of Iranian walnuts has been 6.12 USD per kilogram in 2021. In terms of the weight of walnuts exported last year, 73 percent were shelled walnuts, and 27 percent were walnut kernels. Also, in terms of export value, 58 percent of exported walnuts belong to shelled walnuts, and 42 percent belong to the walnut kernels in 2021.

In 2021, the number of exported walnuts has decreased by 40 percent in terms of weight and 50 percent in terms of export value compared to the same period of the previous year (2020). In 2020, 784 tons of walnuts worth 5.756.000 USD were exported from Iran. The average price of Iranian walnuts was 7.34 USD per kilogram in 2020. The cost of each kilogram of exported walnuts has reduced by 16.6 percent in 2021 compared to last year.

Some factors reduced the number of exports and the average price of each kilogram of Iranian walnuts in 2021 compared to 2020, including reduced production as well as reduced quality of walnuts produced due to summer drought and climate stress in the spring of last year. The product available in the second half of 2021 was much lower in quality and quantity than the previous year. Many of the walnuts harvested this year were empty and of poor quality. This issue caused a significant decrease in the export of Iranian walnut kernels last year, and most of the exported walnuts have been shelled walnuts.

During the past month and with the beginning of the new year, the export demand for Iranian walnuts and walnut kernels decreased compared to the previous month. This issue led to a balance between the supply and demand of Iranian walnuts for export in world markets. Over the past month, the price of Iranian walnuts has fluctuated. In general, the prices of various types of walnuts and walnut kernels for export remained unchanged compared to last month.
