Pigeon Pea Market Scenario

  • Compared to last year, pigeon pea production is expected to be better this year. The exact quantity can be determined when the new crops hit the market.
  • Reports suggest that the current demand for the commodity is not as high as expected. Hence the price for the pulse is unlikely to go up anytime soon.
  • Currently, the average price of the pulse is between $0,83 and $0,84 per kg.
  • The African variety is available at $0,71 per kg, while the Burmese type is sold for $0,78 to $0,84 per kg.
  • The demand and supply for the commodity are now at an equilibrium position. However, if the order drops any further, the price can decrease by $0,01 to $0,02 per kg in the coming days.
  • According to experts, the current scenario and even the market’s bearish trend will change with the arrival of the festivals.
  • As the new crop arrives in the market and with the festivities starting from September onwards, the activity for the pulse will increase around August.
  • It will result in a price increase of $0,07 per kg.
  • At the beginning of the new season for the commodity, the price increased to $0,91 per kg last year. This year once again, it can reach the same level, as per experts.
