Polish Protesters End Blockade

Polish farmers have ceased blocking the movement of trucks through the Shehyni checkpoint, as confirmed by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The blockade, which had caused disruptions at the border, was lifted on March 20, bringing relief to freight vehicles entering and leaving Poland.

Return to Normal Operations

According to Demchenko, Ukrainian border guards were informed of the blockade’s end by their Polish counterparts around 9:30 p.m. on March 20. Following the blockade’s cessation, the registration of freight vehicles has resumed its usual course at the Shehyni checkpoint.

Ongoing Restrictions

Despite the removal of the blockade at Shehyni, Polish protesters continue to impede truck movement towards Poland at the “Yagodyn” and “Rava-Ruska” checkpoints. At these checkpoints, there have been no crossings recorded for trucks exiting Ukraine. Additionally, only a limited number of trucks are permitted to leave Poland towards “Yagodyn,” with only 50 trucks allowed per day as of the latest update.

Impact on Traffic

The blockade’s effects are still felt, with queues of trucks observed at four checkpoints. As of the morning of March 21, approximately 850 trucks were queued up in Poland across these four directions, with the majority clustered at the “Yagodyn” checkpoint.

While the lifting of the blockade at the Shehyni checkpoint marks a positive development, ongoing restrictions at other checkpoints highlight the challenges faced by freight traffic between Ukraine and Poland. Continued monitoring of the situation will be crucial to ensure smooth border operations and mitigate disruptions for the agricultural and logistics sectors.
