Turkey Will Start to Import Sugar

Spread the news!

Due to the war, Ukraine cannot export sugar, and Russia imposes a ban on exports. India is limiting sugar exports. With the Presidential decree published in Turkey, 400 thousand tons of cane or sugar beet will be imported with zero customs.

So Why Did Turkey Decide to Import Sugar When Sugar Stocks Were Full?

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey announced to the public that in order to prevent the astronomical price increase in sugar, manufacturers will be allowed to import up to 400 thousand tons with zero customs. Imports to be made within the scope of the decision will be possible with an import license to be issued by the Ministry of Trade, General Directorate of Imports. Imports are expected to be from countries such as Morocco, Algeria and Egypt.

In Turkey, where a quota was imposed on beet production with the Sugar Law enacted in 2001, sugar factories have been privatized recently, and the sugar exporting country has started to import sugar as in many products today.
