Turkish Raisins: Farmers are Reacting to the Prices

Spread the news!

As the last days of a very hot summer approached, the heavy rain that occurred in Manisa last week damaged the grapes that were left to dry in some regions not everywhere. While the grapes were swept away by the flood waters, the farmers tried to save their grapes that were under the ground. While the flood waters carried away tons of grapes from dozens of farmers, the grapes that were saved lost color and yield. Due to the rains, producers in some regions also postponed the cutting of grapes. Also today and tomorrow there can be rain in the city. If it rains when the grapes are left to dry, it causes quality and color loss in these products.

Raisins

The price of raisins, which was 13 TL last year, may have doubled, but this year, due to the 300% increase in costs, the producers are not satisfied with the 27 TL price given by TMO for the number 9 grapes announced by Tayyip Erdoğan. Manufacturers agree that this announced figure pleases the traders, not themselves. Because while TMO only announced the price of number 9, the fact that it did not announce the prices of number 7-8-10, and also that it has not started the purchases yet, caused the prices of raisins to decrease in the market. Although raisins are a product to wait, producers want to sell their raisins as soon as possible due to their debts and storage problems. The traders buy the products for 21-22 TL, which TMO has set a price of 27 TL.  It seems that TMO’s delay in purchases will further reduce prices.

Due to this uncertainty in the market, most of the traders are reluctant to give prices for 2022 crop now. On the other hand, the dollar rate continues to rise in the country. The Usd/TL rate at 18,18 TL (18,10 last week) and Euro/TL rate is at 18,18 TL levels (17,99 last week).
