The export of Iranian dried figs has decreased by about 18 percent in the first seven months of 2022 compared to the first seven months of 2021. China, Vietnam, India, Japan, United Arab Emirates, and Iraq are the most important customers of this product in the first seven months of this year.

According to the Iran customs statistics, 4,696 tons of dried figs worth 14,192,811 USD were exported from Iran in the first seven months of this year. The average price of Iranian dried figs for export has been 3.02 USD per kg during this period. Southeast Asian countries have been the most important customers of Iranian dried figs at this time.

3,740 tons of dried figs worth 11,218,361 USD were exported from Iran to China from the beginning of 2022 to the end of July. The most important export destination of this product has been China having a share of about 80 percent of the export of Iranian dried during this period. The average price of dried figs exported to this country was 3 USD per kilogram.

After China, Vietnam imported 232 tons of this crop at a value of 696,476 USD, and India imported 180 tons worth 634,442 USD. Dried figs exported from Iran to India are of high quality, and the average price is 3.53 USD per kg. The next most important export destinations of Iranian dried figs are Japan importing 112 tons worth 335,915 USD, the United Arab Emirates which imports 85 tons worth 262,393 USD, and Iraq importing 64 tons worth 185,819 USD.

The export of Iranian dried figs has dropped in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period last year (the first seven months of 2021). 5,728 tons of dried figs worth 17,409,292 USD (3.04 USD per kilogram) were exported from Iran during the mentioned months last year. The export rate of dried figs declined by about 18 percent in the first seven months of 2022 compared to the same months last year. The most important reasons for the decrease in the number of exports this year are the decrease in export demand and the market inventory compared to the previous year. The export demand for dried figs decreased in the first seven months of this year due to the lower quality of dried figs available in the market compared to previous years. The decrease in production has reduced market inventory. This issue caused a problem for merchants to supply their cargo. It also decreased the number of exports in the first seven months of 2022 compared to the same period last year.

Compared to last month, the price of Iranian dried figs for export has increased in global markets. The cost of this crop was stable in the domestic market of Iran in the past month. However, it has grown in the world markets due to the decrease in the exchange rate of foreign currencies against the Rial in the past two weeks. The foreign exchange rates have decreased over the past two weeks due to increasing the possibility of the 2015 nuclear agreement revival and the return of Iran and the USA to this agreement, which will lead to the lifting of sanctions on Iran, including financial and banking sanctions. Compared to last month, the price of Iranian dried figs has risen by 6 to 8 percent.
