Split Chickpea Market Scenario
- The price of split chickpea in the market is between $0,58 and $0,60 per kg, and it is unlikely to go southward.
- National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has started purchasing split chickpeas from Gujarat. Next week, they will begin the purchase in Maharashtra.
- The overall price of the pulse will be determined by how NAFED purchases it.
- NAFED has 800 thousand tons of old stock; hence they might not purchase anything above 1 million tons.
- As a result, the pulse farmers can be pressured to sell them at a lower price.
- The pulses’ demand is not as high as expected earlier in the local market. The government had sold the commodity at a lower price. For example, the local government sells the commodity at lower prices than the spot market prices in some states.
- According to experts, however, the low production of the commodity will make the market supportive for the pulse after April 15. The price can improve by $0,03 to $0,04 per kg from then onward. However, the price can drop by $0,02 per kg for the pulse in the coming days.
