Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are the leading coriander-producing states in the country. Presently, this major grocery commodity sowing is in full swing in all three states.

Adequate rains

According to the latest figures of the Gujarat Agriculture Department, sowing has been done on about 2,07,500 hectares in the current state season. In the same period of last season, it was sown on 1,18,500 hectares only. Central-producing states of coriander have received adequate monsoon rains this time. However, the arrival of coriander in Rajasthan’s Ramganj shop was reported to have reduced to around 1000-1500 bags due to limited farmers’ sales.

On the other hand, coriander was reported to have improved slightly after a slight slump in the last few days due to comparatively higher arrivals. However, this improvement is believed to be temporary. Earlier, there was a stable atmosphere in the wholesale price of coriander in the domestic shops of Rajasthan.

Exports declined, earnings jumped

According to the data of the Spices Board, in the April-October period of the current financial year 2022-23, 24,790 tonnes of coriander have been exported from the country. In the period under review a year ago, it exported 28,842 tonnes. This shows that while exports of coriander have declined by 14% on a quantity basis, earnings have jumped by 28% as domestic prices remain high. Thus, there is no possibility of growth in coriander in the coming days.

According to experts, the higher sowing of new crops is affecting the market sentiment, and fear in the coriander market prevails in the upcoming days.

The Coriander seeds prices were recorded at $1,14 per kg FOB.
