After a hike in minimum support prices in pulses, why Indian government importing red lentil and black gram from Burma?

Indian traders resume import trade following the government’s recent decision to deregulate pulses, including red lentils.

As per traders report, Indian traders started importing pulses from Burma, and they imported 300 containers of black gram and red lentil in which about 200 containers of black gram only with the prices of $730/ton for FAQ quality and $830 per ton for standard quality while red lentil imported at $730 per ton.

Pulses sowing is expected to decrease despite the government recently hiked MSP (minimum support price) of pulses because farmers expected to turn on cotton and soybean. As a result, before the prices of pulses hike in the new season, traders started importing pulses, and the other side government allowed imports only till the end of October month.
