Major producing countries of raisins include India, Turkey, America, Iran, China, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Chile, and Argentina. India primarily competes with Turkey, USA, Iran, and China in manufacturing Raisins. Over the past five years, India has maintained its position in the top five manufacturing sectors. India has not moved beyond tenth place in exports. India only exports three percent of raisins from its production. More than 1.3 million tons of Raisins are produced worldwide every year. Indian raisins’ quality is better in terms of quality compared to raisins produced all over the world.

Worldwide Production

Indian raisins have a big opportunity in the export market but it is essential to find out the reasons for the deteriorating percentage of exports. In the last five years, Turkey has always been in first place by producing up to 290 thousand tons. After that, America is in second place with a production of 200 thousand tonnes, Iran in 173 thousand tonnes, China in third and fourth place with a production of 172 thousand tonnes, while India with a production of 145 thousand tonnes is in fifth place.

It is said by sources that Indian exporters are not showing much interest in exports as there is not much difference between the domestic market price and the export price.

Current Trend

At present, the price of first-grade raisins in the domestic market ranges from $2,12 to 2,66 per kg, second-grade raisins from $1,69 to 1,94 per kg, and third-grade raisins from $0,72 to 0,97 per kg. At present, the shopping for raisins is going on in full swing on the eve of Diwali. The shopping season continues till the end of this month.

The Gulf countries, whose demand is highest, ask for the same price range which Indian exporters get in the domestic market. Mainly, the third type of raisins is preferred more than the first type, while in India also the third type of raisins gets a good price. It is not available for export; these are some of the reasons behind the fewer exports in exports.
