Sultana Raisins: Raw material prices sligthly decreased

MANISA: Turkish sultana raisins raw material prices slightly decreased, but this will not continue.

Market players stated that the raw material prices of the Turkish sultana raisins decreased slightly from 11.30 TL/kg to 10.90 TL/kg for type nr.9 last week at the Borse in Izmir. The exporters had already reduced their export price offers a few weeks ago from 1700 Usd/mt to 1600 Usd/mt both for current crop and new crop products. It is, however, stated that buyers must not expect that this decrease will continue; on the contrary, that the prices could increase towards the start of the new Season. Market players also stated that there is almost no raw material available any more on the Market. Some exporters started to buy even from TMO nowadays, which could mean that the carry-over could be less expected. Turkish sultana raisin exports increased last few weeks compared with last Year’s same period. However, it is stated that these figures are average and that last year’s export figures are below normal as the purchases decreased worldwide due to the beginning of the pandemic. Farmers expect higher prices for the new crop, and it seems that they will withhold their goods if they cannot get higher prices. The season start will be challenging, as some market players stated. The fluctuations of the TL towards the foreign currencies continue, which is one of the main reasons for the unstable market. The Usd/TL rate is at 8.46 TL (8.61 last week) and Euro/TL rate at 10.26 TL levels (10.51 TL previous week. The total exports until the 12th of June 2021 were 179.850 mt, which was 203.481 mt last year during the same period. Turkey exported 4125 mt of sultana raisins last week, 3697 mt during the same week of the previous Season.
