In 2013, when the export of ginger, saffron, and turmeric was $ 30.29 million, now it has taken a market size of $90.62 crore. The export of turmeric, ginger, and saffron has increased by about 192 percent in the eight years.

According to last year’s figures, India’s total spice exports account for more than 40 percent and 29 percent by value. Turmeric accounts for 11 percent by volume and 6 percent by value in exports. India exported 1,36,000 tonnes of turmeric, $150 million.

Turmeric has become very popular during the pandemic due to its immunity-boosting properties. During the Covid pandemic, golden milk made using turmeric, and black pepper has become one of the most searched recipes for boosting immunity.

Due to this, its export demand has also increased. During the first half of the financial year 2020-21, there has been a significant increase of 42 percent in exports in terms of volume. Due to this, the farmers’ income has increased, and their economic condition is improving. This is proving very effective for the farmers who cultivate the spice.
