The recent cyclone – ‘Tauktae’ damaged summer sesame crop in Gujarat state of India. Around 15-20 percent of the crop were damaged. Please login or sign up now.’] However, prices didn’t get affected much because this time crop size is higher by 315% than last year. The sesame sowing in Gujarat is estimated at 97799 hectare this year which was 58187 hectare last year and on the other side demand is also lower compared to the production. According to traders reports this year’s summer sesame production is expected at 1.25-1.50 lakh tons.
As per traders survey, looking at the current prospects of arrivals in markets there is no chance for shortage of sesame. Currently sesame market in India is quoting between $116.41-$117.78 per quintal for 99.5 variety, however prices can get support if the demand from China increases in coming time.
