This time there was a significant decline in the sowing of cumin in this state. Farmers have moved to sow other products since cumin did not fetch a reasonable price the last season.
On the other hand, the absence of export demand is being felt in Unjha. It is the largest cumin exporter spot market in India. The lack of export demand is due to a shortage of containers and an increased freight price.
Apart from India, Turkey and Syria are known as other cumin-producing countries worldwide. But now, Afghanistan and Iran also pose a challenge to Indian cumin.
