Peanut Sowing Is Down by 19 Percent in Gujarat

During this Kharif season, there is 19 percent less sowing of peanuts in Gujarat. The State Agriculture Department releases the information. There is a decrease in sowing of the peanut across Gujarat, even in the largest sowing district of the state like Saurashtra. The main reason is the unfavorable weather in the growing areas from the beginning of the season.

As per the latest data, groundnut has been sown in 1.426 million hectares in Gujarat during the current season to date.

In total, the major oil seed crop sown is 17,64,500 hectares. This shows that there is a shortfall of 3,38,500 hectares or 19.18 percent in peanuts planted so far this time in Gujarat.

In all the productive areas of the state, this major there is a shortfall of about 16 percent in the sowing of Kharif oilseeds.

According to the State Agriculture Department, a total of 12,18,600 hectares of peanut has been sown in Saurashtra during the current season compared to last year’s 14,46,900 hectares.

North Gujarat, the second largest producing region of the state, is reported to have sown. North Gujarat is the second largest producing region of the state compared to last year’s 2,88,200 hectares.

There has been a significant decline in peanut sowing in these major producing regions and Central Gujarat. So far this time in Central Gujarat, groundnut sowing has fallen by 32.63 percent, from 9500 hectares last year to 6400 hectares this year.

In South, Gujarat peanut is sown in 2300 hectares compared to the previous year’s 3300 hectares.

It remains to be seen how the shortfall in the sowing will eventually impact the market.
