Union Industries and Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal had recently informed in a tweet that there had been an increase in the export of some spices, including turmeric and dry ginger.
Experts and traders commented on the tweet of the Commerce Minister. They said that it seems that the Modi government has adopted some special strategy in exporting spices from the country. As a result, the latest export policy of the government whereas in the last about 15-16 years. They helped with a steady growth trend in the export of various spices from the country.
Shri Goyal had said in his tweet that during the first two months of the current financial year, i.e., April-May, 2022, the export of turmeric and dry ginger, including saffron, has increased three times. Experts stated that from Mr. Goyal’s tweet, there seems to be an increase in the export of these major grocery commodities compared to a year ago, i.e., 2021. However, it is not like that. It seems the respected Minister compared the increase in exports from the year 2013. In other words, this increase in the export of turmeric, dry ginger, and saffron has happened in the last nine years.
Experts said this could not be called a remarkable achievement as there has been a steady growth trend in the export of grocery commodities from the country for the last 16-17 years. Anyway, this is not just rhetoric, but the Spices Board of India figures, which comes under the Union Ministry of Commerce, are also giving their testimony.
Experts state that if the Spices Board continues to encourage the growers and the production of spices in the country, then in the coming years, India can regain its old reputation in the international trade of spices.
