ODESA: The opening of Ukrainian Black Sea ports, leads to an increase in purchase prices for sunflowers in Ukraine. Already 8 vessels, blocked since the beginning of the war, left Odesa port.
Oil producers face problems with the sale of meal and cake, therefore they do not take into account their cost when calculating the purchase price of sunflower. Establishing the export of meal and cake through seaports in the coming months will increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian oil producers, and they will be able to give a better price than sunflower exporters, which will stop the export of seeds abroad.
According to the State Customs Service, from August 1 to August 8, 2022, Ukraine exported 90.2 thousand tons of sunflower oil, which is 9% more than in the same period in July. Turkey (35.3 thousand tons) and Poland (13.3 thousand tons) became the main buyers of domestic oil. In general, in 2021/22 MY, oil exports from Ukraine reached 4.19 million tons.
At the same time, during August 1-8, sunflower exports decreased by 50% compared to the same period in July to 59 thousand tons. Of which 16.47 thousand tons went to Bulgaria, 16.2 thousand tons – to Romania and 13. 5 thousand tons – to Turkey. In total, in 2021/22 MY, Ukraine exported 1.5 million tons of sunflowers.
