About 29 thousand tons of oil flax seeds were imported to Kazakhstan from Russia in the 2021/22 marketing year. Compared to the 2020/21 season, the import of domestic crops increased 9 times. It is reported by “ElDala” with reference to the Federal Center for Grain Quality Assessment.
According to experts, last season Kazakhstan was on the fifth line in the ranking of the main importers of Russian flax, although a year earlier the country was only in the ninth position.
“After a record harvest of oil flax seeds in 2020 – 1.58 million tons, last season, 775.6 thousand tons were harvested due to drought in the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the same time, the price of the crop has risen sharply: in the domestic market of Kazakhstan, flax has risen in price from $428 in March 2021 to $761 in March 2022. In Europe, prices over the same period increased from $515 to $1035 per ton,” the report says.
Recall that, according to the executive director of the Oil and Fat Union of Russia, Mikhail Maltsev, last season China bought the culture from our country the most, Belgium came in second, and Turkey came third.
In general, flax seeds from Russia were exported to 48 countries in MY 2021/22 (to 48 countries in MY 2020/21; to 46 countries in MY 2019/20).
