About 17 million tons of critical oilseeds (sunflower, soybean, rapeseed) will be harvested by Ukrainian agricultural producers in 2022. This result could drop by nearly a quarter compared to 2021 results, said Svetlana Kirichok, oilseeds market analyst at APK. Inform IA during an international agro-industrial conference, “Asia Grains & Oils Conference in Tashkent-2022”.
As the expert clarifies, sunflowers will suffer the most: Almost 30% less acreage was allocated for sowing this crop this year, so we should expect a decrease in production volumes.
“According to our estimates, the gross sunflower crop will decrease by 34% to 10.9 million tons, which will be the minimum value for Ukraine since 2015”, Kirichok said.
As for the processing volumes of Ukrainian seeds, the indicators in the new 2022/23 season will also be at the minimum level in recent years, the expert assured.
For example, in the 2021/22 marketing year, Ukraine processed the smallest amount of sunflower since the 2015/16 marketing year – 11.6 million tons.
