The Council of Ministers of the Spain has approved the abolition of the value added tax (VAT) on fruits and vegetables for six months, announced government president Pedro Sanchez.
The president also announced a direct assistance to farmers in the amount of 300 million to compensate for the increase in growing and operating costs, such as an increase in the cost of fertilizers and other resources.
This measure is included in the package, which includes other products, some of which had a VAT of 4% and which will be completely abolished, while others that had a VAT of 10%, such as oil and pasta, which will be reduced to 5%.
In addition to fruits and vegetables, VAT was also abolished for bread, baking flour, milk, cheese, eggs, legumes, potatoes and cereals.
