About 715.1 thousand tons of Australian canola were sold to foreign markets in January 2023. Compared to the previous month (December 2022), oilseed exports decreased by about 50 thousand tons – from 763.3 thousand tons according to the Grain Central.
Experts adjusted the volume of oilseed exports in December 2022, reducing the estimate by 14%, from a record 883.8 thousand tons to 763.3 thousand tons.
Germany is the largest importer of Australian canola in January – 238.2 thousand tons. Next comes Belgium, which bought 130.7 thousand tons of this crop. Bangladesh is third with 105.2 thousand tons.
The top 5 also include Japan and the UAE – 74 thousand tons and 59.7 thousand tons, respectively.
It is worth noting that insignificant volumes in the first month of 2023 were also sent to Hungary, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Mexico, New Zealand and the Netherlands.
In general, over the past three months (November-January), Australia has sent abroad more than 2.1 million tons of oilseeds. According to the National Federation AOF (Australian Oilseeds Federation), in the current season, canola exports from the country may exceed 6 million tons.
