Türkiye this season can approximately triple the export of olive oil against the background of record production of the product on the domestic market. According to the International Olive Council (IOC), the supply may increase from 58 thousand tons a year earlier to 134 thousand tons.

Mustafa Tan, chairman of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK), explained that this dramatic growth was due to the decline in olive oil production in the world, and especially in Spain.

“This situation has created a double advantage for the Turkish industry,” commented Can Candeger, managing partner of Artem Oliva. – Our expectations for exports are 130,000-140,000 tons.”

The expert also cited competitive prices, high quality of local products and increased recognition of Turkish olive oil brands as the main drivers of export growth.

“The European Union needs Turkish olive oil, so the bloc countries should focus on this market,” said Davut Er, head of the Aegean Exporters Association (EIB). – Developments in the global olive oil market are playing into Türkiye’s hands.”

Kandeger also noted that the growing global demand for healthy food is also contributing to an increase in Turkish olive oil exports.

“Demand is increasing not only from consumers but also from companies that use this type of oil as an ingredient in food products,” he added.
