Farmers in Belarus plan to harvest a record rapeseed of about 1 million tons this year. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats in an interview with the TV channel “Belarus 1”.
According to him, the country as a whole has increased the sowing of winter and spring rapeseed in such a way as to get at least 1 million tons of oilseeds this year. At the same time, farmers were forced to reduce the area under winter rye and increase winter barley crops.
“2022 turned out to be a good year for farmers. We need not only to gain a foothold at this level but also to grow a little” Zayats commented.
He also added that in Belarus it is planned to harvest grain crops in an area of 2.5 million hectares. “Last year we had a yield together with corn of 35.8 centners / ha, this year we set the task at least not lower than last year” the deputy prime minister said.
Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the gross harvest of rapeseed in the country should reach 1 million tons. According to him, in Europe, the demand for rapeseed oil is great even during the period of sanctions, and farmers should pay attention to the cultivation of not only rapeseed but also winter barley.
