Gujarat, known for its golden harvests, is set to witness a bumper crop of white sesame, estimated to be over two million tonnes. The region boasts the finest quality of white sesame produced thus far, while the summer black sesame crop is projected to reach 5,000 tonnes. With daily arrivals currently ranging between 40,000 and 50,000 bags, experts anticipate a surge to 55,000 to 60,000 bags within the next week.
Benefiting from recent rainfall, Bengal’s brown sesame crop anticipates reaching an impressive 0.25 to 0.3 million tonnes. With 80% of Bengal’s crop utilized for sesame oil, a price increase is expected as the arrival pressure intensifies. Additionally, Andhra Telangana’s crop has concluded at 10,000 tonnes, while Tamil Nadu’s of 15,000 tonnes has commenced. Moreover, Maharashtra-Telangana has witnessed the arrival of 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes since May.
The international market expects a substantial influx of two lakh tonnes from Tanzania-Mozambique. Shipments are set to commence in June. Indian turmeric units have engaged in importing Brazilian sesame, with shipments arriving in September from the new crop harvested in July. This year, sowing rates have significantly increased following China’s decision to eliminate the 10% duty on Pakistani sesame. The size of the upcoming crop will be contingent on rainfall during August and September. Meanwhile, China currently holds a stock of 0.2 to 0.225 million tonnes of white sesame, leading to decreased prices over the past month. Notably, Korea’s tender is expected to remain unaffected by India’s bumper crop.
