The global agribusiness giant Cargill has expanded its regenerative agriculture program in four European countries – France, Germany, Poland and Romania – and in nine US states, Oils & Fats International reports.

In March, Cargill provided US farmers with access to the emerging carbon market through the Cargill RegenConnect online service.

The company notes that the voluntary regenerative agricultural program RegenConnect has helped farmers improve soil health and decarbonize the agricultural supply chain.

Launched two years ago, the program will provide financial compensation to four countries for implementing environmentally friendly farming practices.

In addition, the program has expanded to nine US states, meaning it will be available to farmers in 24 states. In the U.S., the program will provide farmers with higher payments, cover more commodities – adding cotton to the list of eligible crops along with corn, soybeans and wheat – and simplify registration for the program through mobile devices.

Agriculture and farmers can be part of the climate solution by helping to reduce emissions, improve water quality and use, increase yields, and build resilience in our soils for the next generation,” said Chantelle Donahue, vice president of North American Agricultural Supply Chain at Cargill.

Farmers participating in the program were able to choose the methods that best fit their specific growing conditions, including planting cover crops and implementing minimal or no tillage.

In addition to providing technical support and resources to ensure farmers’ success, the program also helped farmers connect with some of the world’s largest companies that are actively seeking to reduce their environmental impact while supporting regenerative agriculture.

Cargill is one of the largest global agribusiness and trading companies. It produces and sells grain, oil, sugar, cocoa, meat, and biofuels. It operates in 70 countries and trades in 125 countries. The company employs 155 thousand people.
