According to the estimates of the General Administration of Customs of China, in May the country imported 1.2 million tons of wheat, which is 72% higher than in the same period of the previous year.
At the same time, the volume of corn imports last month decreased to 1.7 mln tonnes (-20% y-o-y).
In total, since the beginning of 2023, China imported 7.2 mln tonnes of wheat (+63% compared to January-May 2022) and 10.2 mln tonnes of corn (-11%).
Recall that China is seeking to increase wheats’ use for feed, thereby reducing the use of corn for these purposes.
