If necessary, Hungary will unilaterally maintain the ban on imports of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine. This was announced by the country’s Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy after a meeting in Brussels with his EU colleagues, TASS reported.
According to him, local authorities will protect the interests of their farmers “by all means and at any cost” even if the European Commission (EC) does not extend the ban on supplies of Ukrainian raw materials to Central European countries.
“This measure should be extended … to [help] free up storage space for our own products. If Ukrainian grain does not enter the country, there will be room for the Hungarian harvest,” the MTI news agency quoted the head of the Agriculture Ministry.
We shall remind you that Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia asked the European Commission to extend the ban on imports of oilseeds and grains from Ukraine until the end of the year. Now the import of sunflower seeds, rapeseed, wheat and corn of Ukrainian origin is banned in these regions, but transit is allowed. The current restrictions are in effect until September 15.
