Poland has presented to the European Commission estimates of the investment needed to increase the transit of agricultural products from Ukraine across the Polish-Ukrainian border, European Truth reports.
According to the documents presented, the development of the large truck and rail infrastructure in Przemyśl requires around €500 million and Poland considers this investment a priority.
A further €500 million should be spent on modernising railway crossing points on the Polish-Ukrainian border, building freight terminals and developing the infrastructure for controlling freight at the border, Agronews.ua reports.
According to Andrzej Sados, Poland’s permanent representative to the EU, Poland could increase the transit of Ukrainian grain to third countries, in particular to Africa, within 1.5 years.
The official also added that Poland continues to support all measures aimed at improving the so-called “solidarity routes” for Ukrainian agricultural exports.
On 4 August, the Polish government announced that it was not abandoning its intention to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products, which is valid until 15 September.
