The EU Has Increased Exports of Sunflower and Rapeseed Oil

EU countries exported a record volume of sunflower oil to foreign markets in the period from October 2022 to June 2023. Thus, according to estimates of the Hamburg-based analytical agency OilWorld (Germany), 963,000 tonnes of the product were exported from the EU in the first 9 months of MY 2022/23 (+369,000 tonnes to MY 2021/22).

In particular, the largest buyers in the last three months (April-June) were Iraq (104 thousand tonnes), India (28 thousand tonnes), Morocco (31 thousand tonnes) and South Africa (26 thousand tonnes). Most of the sunflower oil was shipped from Bulgaria and Romania.

In addition, from October to June 2022/23 MY, shipments of rapeseed oil also increased sharply – from 249 thousand tonnes (2021/22 MY) to 562 thousand tonnes. It is noted that more than a quarter of the total volume (151 thousand tonnes) was shipped to China.

However, during the period under review, soybean oil exports from the bloc countries slightly decreased to 689 thousand tonnes compared to 746 thousand tonnes in October-June 2021/22 MY. Shipments were mainly to Morocco and other African countries, as well as to the UK.
