Bulgaria intends to ban sunflower seed imports from Ukraine in the near future. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Nikolay Denkov after several hours of negotiations with agricultural producers. Bulgarian farmers continue protesting against the import of Ukrainian agricultural products.
According to the Prime Minister, the import of Ukrainian sunflower seeds will continue as soon as its quota is agreed with Kyiv. He added that he would discuss the quota issue with his Ukrainian colleague.
Thus, there should be certain quotas for all countries including Bulgaria. This quota will be allowed for imports to Bulgaria. But in the near future, there will be no import of sunflower seeds from Ukraine.
Minister of Finance Asen Vasiliev clarified that the import of sunflowers from Ukraine will be allowed when there are clear volumes agreed between farmers and the processing industry. He is sure that budget revenues will not suffer.
