Moldovan farmers ask the government to urgently introduce a stable and sustainable mechanism to restrict imports of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine, similar to the one established in Romania and Bulgaria, the association “Farmers’ Power” said in a statement.

The association recalled that on October 4, 2023, the Commission for Emergency Situations (CES), at the insistence of the agrarians, introduced a system of licensing of imports of grains and oilseeds for the period of the state of emergency. According to them, although the measure was implemented very late, it did stop the price collapse in the domestic market and the price rise of wheat, corn and sunflower has slowed down in the last two months.

The authorities recently announced that the state of emergency will be lifted as of January 1, 2024, which means that all decisions of the EC are automatically revoked, including the decision of October 4, 2023… The Farmers’ Power Association demands that the government urgently implement a stable and sustainable mechanism to limit imports of grain and oilseeds, similar to those established in Romania and Bulgaria,” the association wrote in a message published on its social media page.

According to the organization, the company Trans Oil intends to import from Ukraine about 300 thousand tons of sunflower, which, according to representatives of the association “Farmers’ Power“, will once again affect the interests of local agricultural producers.
