Exploring the Sizzle in Dry Ginger Markets

Spread the news!

As winter tightens its grip on North India, the capital city of Delhi experiences a chill that ushers in more than frosty mornings. The recent spike in dry ginger prices reveals the warming impact of increased consumption during winter.

Winter’s Arrival and Ginger’s Ascent

In the midst of Delhi’s winter blues, the demand for dry ginger takes center stage, causing prices to shoot up. The severe cold and extended periods without sunlight have led to a surge in ginger and dry ginger sales. However, the twist in the tale lies in the tighter-than-usual supply, leading to recent price hikes. Winter’s chill embraces North India and tightens the ginger supply, making the spice more elusive. Despite the traditional surge in ginger demand during winter, Delhi witnesses a decline in ginger arrivals from Bangalore. This drop in supply has triggered a significant increase in ginger prices. The scarcity is attributed to a record-breaking price spike, prompting farmers to sell nearly their ginger crop swiftly. As a result, the shortage in ginger supply echoes in the dry ginger markets.

Kochi’s Spice and Kerala’s Dilemma

On the other side of the spice spectrum, Kochi’s market in Kerala tells a tale of soaring ginger prices and limited availability. With a significant 90-95 percent of ginger already sold due to attractive prices, the stockists witnessed a surge in dry ginger sales. Despite the onset of new arrivals, the scarcity and rising temperatures push dry ginger prices to $4,34 – $4,40 or €3,95 – €4,00 per kilogram.

As the new batch of dry ginger hits the Kochi market in Kerala, the scenario is far from easing. The negligible arrival of dry ginger prompts an increase, putting the current price at $4,58 – $4,82 or €4,17 – €4,39 per kg. The imbalance in supply and heightened buying activity by stockists contribute to the spike.

In Delhi’s winter chill, the surge in dry ginger prices reveals the spice’s warming impact during the cold season. Despite the traditional winter demand, a decline in ginger arrivals triggers a significant price hike in Delhi, attributed to a record-breaking spike and rapid sales by farmers. Meanwhile, Kochi’s market in Kerala faces scarcity, with soaring prices and limited availability driven by attractive sales prices for ginger. As new batches hit the market, the imbalance in supply and heightened buying activity contribute to the surge. The coming days for dry ginger are strong.
