Ukraine currently has a record number of exporters, as small and medium-sized farmers have started selling grain on their own.
For the last two years, the number of legal entities that started exporting agricultural products increased by 1,500. These are mostly small companies that are growing grains and exporting their own harvest. Their products were sent mainly to the territory of the EU. Large companies are more oriented on the Middle East, China, India.
Nevertheless, such a well-established system began to crack when the Poles began to block the border. At the moment this issue is very acute. After all, the EU is not interested in such a corridor, when everyone, including small and medium-sized farmers, can directly supply their products to the EU. EU has special demands for quality and it is hard to control such supplies.
Ukraine can return to the pre-war volume of grain exports.
Before the start of the full-scale war, the Black Sea terminals were the main route of supplying grain for export. On average, Ukraine exported 7.5-8 million tons of grains every month. Now Odesa’s biggest ports are increasing their export volumes and restoring their capacities. Although the Mykolaiv and Kherson terminals are not working. Their restoration is yet to come.
One of the most important indicators – there are already four companies that insure transportation. This helps to reduce the cost of insurance significantly. Today it is 1.25% of the value of the cargo. And they started with 7%.
