The Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye opened tariff quotas for sunflower seeds and crude sunflower oil and reduced customs duties as a temporary measure to prevent speculative price increases and to direct the supply and demand conditions and price movements in the market correctly.
With the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette;
- 100 thousand tonnes of sunflower seeds for oil
- 250 thousand tonnes of tariff quotas have been opened for the import of crude sunflower oil.
Within this framework, the customs duty on imported sunflower seeds has been reduced from 27% to 12% and on crude sunflower oil from 36% to 22% by Türkiye. The decision will apply until 15 April 2024.
36 million tonnes of sunflower produced in the last 10 years
Sunflower accounts for 50% of the vegetable oil produced in Turkey. Turkey, with its sunflower production of 1.5 million tonnes according to the average of the last 10 years, accounts for more than 4% of the world sunflower production, which is 36 million tonnes.
