DALIAN, China: Feedback from market participants indicates that the Chinese market has entered the peak season surrounding the Chinese New Year holiday, resulting in a notable surge in prices. This upswing has been attributed to heightened domestic demand, driving up export costs and increasing prices of sunflower seed raw materials. Consequently, exporters in the shipping market are experiencing delays in fulfilling orders due to these factors. To cope with the rising prices, some Chinese importers have turned to sourcing European sunflower seeds at lower costs to meet domestic market demands.
As of this week, the reference price for confectionery-grade sunflower seeds ranges between $1,580-1,610 (€1465-1493)per tonne, while bakery-grade sunflower seeds are priced between $1,400-1,430 (€1298-1326)per tonne, FOB Tianjin or Dalian.
