In 2023, Kazakhstan significantly increased imports of Russian wheat, according to official statistics, APK-Inform reports.
For 12 months of 2023, 1.988 mln tonnes of wheat were imported to the Republic of Kazakhstan from the Russian Federation. This is 20% higher than the figure for 2022.

It should be noted, that in 2023, due to unfavorable weather conditions, the wheat harvest in Kazakhstan decreased by 26% to 12.11 mln tonnes.
In addition, the quality of the harvest has also deteriorated. According to the Ministry of Agriculture estimates, as of December 2023, only 35% of the wheat harvest in Kazakhstan belonged to 3rd grade.
At the same time, today in Kazakhstan there is an official ban on the import of wheat, incl. from the Russian Federation (except for the import of grain by rail to licensed elevators, grain processors, poultry enterprises and the transit of wheat through the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan).
