APEDA’s Push for Kashi Farmers

A New Horizon for Turmeric: In a recent initiative by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Kashi farmers celebrated a significant leap with the export of 16 quintals (1,600 kg) of turmeric to the UAE. The milestone event occurred in Varanasi, where the fresh turmeric was dispatched directly to Sharjah, thanks to the efforts of the Banaras Organo Farmer Producer Company Limited. This export marks a significant achievement following a promotional exposure visit to the UAE, enhancing the visibility and marketability of regional agricultural products.

Capacity Building and International Exposure

Fostering Growth through Exposure: APEDA’s recent endeavour included a strategic exposure visit to Dubai for farmers and FPOs from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. The visit aimed at unlocking the export potential of the region’s agricultural products. Following this, a capacity-building session in Varanasi further aimed to disseminate the knowledge gained and encourage more farmers to engage in export activities. The event highlighted the increasing agricultural exports from the Purvanchal region, significantly boosted by APEDA’s continuous support since 2020.

Wider Export Initiatives and Sectoral Growth Apart from Turmeric

Expanding Export Frontiers: In addition to turmeric, the government has facilitated the export of 64,400 tonnes of onions to the UAE and Bangladesh, underscoring India’s role as a significant exporter in the agricultural sector. Furthermore, collaborative efforts with South Korea are set to enhance seafood exports through shared knowledge and standards. In electronics, Tamil Nadu has made a notable mark by becoming India’s leading exporter, with substantial growth in the sector attributed to innovative policies and increased production capabilities.

Through strategic initiatives and international collaboration, India is making significant strides in agricultural exports, highlighting the country’s growing influence in global markets and the potential for enhancing farmers’ incomes and national economic growth.
