On April 3rd, the container vessel T Mare set off along the Ukrainian sea corridor from port Chernomorsk to the Romanian port of Constanta.
This was the first case of container shipments from Ukrainian seaports during the full-scale Russian invasion. It should be noted that for now this is not a full-fledged specialised vessel. It is a so-called feeder that sails between Constanta and the ports of Greater Odessa.
Container transportation from Ukraine was in very limited and difficult conditions recently. It was previously carried out to a limited extent through the Danube ports of the Odessa region. Also most of containers were delivered by trucks to the neighbour ports of Romanian Constanta or Polish Gdansk. It made the total logistics costs almost twice higher.
The new route of containers traffic from Odesa ports can significantly increase the export volumes of niche products from Ukraine. But the question of regular Russian attacks on Odessa ports infrastructure is still not solved. Only in a few months will we see whether Ukraine manages to stabilise container traffic from its seaports.
