The Black Sea region in Turkey is now struggling with floods where 72 people lost their lives while some are still missing after huge wildfires in the West and South of Turkey two weeks ago. The average seasonal temperatures in Turkey also continue this week, with temperatures around 37C.
The harvest of dried sultana raisins has finally started slightly today. The farmers have become more impatient since TMO has still not published the base price yet. However, market players stated that exporters are not hurrying to buy raw material since they are currently covered with raw material purchased from TMO. This worries the farmers more. Last week, the Provincial Chambers of Agriculture of Manisa stated that the farmers expect 16.5 TL/kg for Sultana raisins type nr 9 from TMO due to the increased growing costs.
This week, the exporters have slightly increased their offers to 1.700 USD/mt on a FOB basis for type nr.9, crop 2021 due to the appreciated Turkish Lira. The prices for organic sultana raisins remained the same at 2.200 Euro/mt levels (approx 2.600 USD/mt); however, price increases are expected since there is less organic than last year.
As stated, the fluctuations in the TL continue TL has now appreciated and reached for Usd/TL rate is at 8.45TL ( 8.63 last week) and Euro/TL rate at 9.98 TL levels ( 10.17 last week). The total exports until 14 August 2021 were 213.537 mt, which was 238.631 mt the previous year during the same period. Turkey exported 5250 mt of sultana raisins last week, which was 4461 mt during the same week of the previous Season.
