According to traders, the cumin seed market is down due to a lack of export demand. However, it is expected that the domestic demand will keep the prices stable.
Bangladesh and other countries that import cumin seed from India have not made any demand so far due to the rising number of COVID cases. Despite India having control over the COVID cases and lockdown being eased in most regions, there has not been any significant demand for the cumin seed in the Unjha mandi of Rajasthan. Furthermore, in Gujarat, the rain is less than expected, affecting cumin crop cultivation.
It has also been reported that after the easing of lockdown due to the second wave of COVID -19, the market fulfilled the domestic demand. As a result, there is not much drastic change in the cumin seed price in the last few days, and it is expected to stay that way in the coming days. This week, cumin prices for export markets are being offered at a $2,05/ kg basis for A grade 99%.
